The old St Andrews Hall Cowes previously know as the St Marys Mission Hall has benefited from a makeover by the Community Church (I.W.). The hall belongs to the Isle of Wight Council but due to budget restraints had been allowed to fall into disrepair with rotten floor boards, falling plaster and peeling paintwork. This coupled with poor heating made the place unattractive for hirers apart that is from the Community Church who have held their meetings there over the past 10 years.
The Community Church approached the council and are now in possession of a licence to manage the hall for the benefit of the local community, they have invested £9,000 in refurbishing the building. Charlie Hancock has overseen the work largely with the support of a team of volunteer workers kindly provided by Spinlock of Cowes, church members and other local residents. The hall has been redecorated internally, had new flooring installed and new heaters fitted. New tables and chairs have been purchased and the hall can now seat 100 people. Further improvements are planned for the kitchen area and external paintwork during the summer months.
Two community events recently staged at the hall by the church have seen attendance of over 200 people, many of whom have commented on the huge improvements and the delight of having the hall back in use again.
